One dead after minivan, semi-truck collide near Grand Bend: Police

BLUEWATER – Ontario Provincial Police officers closed a section of Highway 21 north of Grand Bend on Wednesday morning following a crash that left one person dead.
Police have confirmed one driver died after a collision between a minivan and a semi-truck and trailer at Highway 21 and Sararas Road. The highway runs north-south along the Lake Huron shoreline and the location of the collision is north of Grand Bend and southeast of Zurich.

The highway was expected to be closed for several hours between Dashwood Road and Zurich-Hensall Road, police said. Motorists were asked to take an alternate route and follow the detour.
Chatham man charged in attempted murder
A Chatham man faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and arson, after a weekend fire in Chatham, police say.
Emergency crews called to a fire on Park Street about 8 a.m. Sunday say a male tenant was still in the building, police said in a statement on Tuesday. He was found and taken to safety by Chatham-Kent firefighters.
“He was found unconscious with visible injuries unrelated to the fire,” police said in a statement. “The man was immediately transported to the hospital for medical attention, where it was determined that the injuries were life-threatening.”
The investigation was turned over to the Chatham-Kent police criminal investigation branch, which identified a male suspect, who was arrested Monday, police said.
Clinton Willder, 28, of Chatham, is charged with attempted murder, arson, and break and enter, police said Wednesday. He was held pending a March 19 court date.

Pair doused in bear spray, man charged: London police
A London man is charged after a man and a woman were doused in bear spray after an argument, London police say.
A woman tried to break up an argument between two men at a home near Horton and Clarence streets about 11 p.m. Tuesday, police said. One man told her and the other man to leave, spraying them with bear spray as they left.
No injuries were reported, police said.
A London man, 20, is charged with assault with a weapon, police said. He is to appear in court April 16.
