No centuries at Lord’s: Five star batsmen who never managed to get on the famed Lord’s honours board | Sporting News India

England pacer Gus Atkinson has been in the news after scoring an unlikely century at the iconic Lord’s stadium in London in the second Test against Sri Lanka. The 26-year-old, coming in to bat No.8, added 116 runs to the total as England were bowled out for 427 on the second day.

Atkinson’s heroic knock is not only his highest-ever score as a batter in all forms of cricket. Moreover, the feat also got him applauses and laurels from far and wide. One such laurel, is the entry on the Lord’s Honours Board for batting.

Atkinson, being a fast-bowler, has his name etched on the iconic list for a batting feat. As unimaginable as it would sound, the speedster played one heck of a knock on Friday!

What is the Lord’s Honours Boards?

The Lord’s Honours Boards is the list of iconic performances at the ever-so-iconic Lord’s Cricket Stadium. Three instances where players are included on the Honours Boards are:

  • Scoring a century (Test or ODI)
  • Picking a 5-fer in a single inning (Test or ODI)
  • Picking a 10-fer across a single Test match

While Atkinson has managed to get on all three honours boards at Lord’s, he would never have imagined himself getting on the one meant for batsmen. There are many star batters who have never managed the feat.

Here is a list of five prime-time batters, some of the best to ever play the game, who have not been able to get their names on the list in their careers.

List of five batters who have not scored a Test century at Lord’s

Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar, one of the best to ever grace the game, has not scored a century in a competitive Test at Lord’s during his 24-year-long career. Though, the Master Blaster did score a ton in a memorial match in 1998.

He played a total of 5 Tests at the Lord’s but never managed a fifty or a hundred. His highest score at the home of cricket is 37.

Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting, Australia’s talisman for over a decade, did not score a Test century. Ponting’s highest Test score at Lord’s is 42.

However, the former Australian captain did get on the ODI honours board. Ponting’s only century at the venue came in an ODI in 2005. He scored 111 runs against England during a bilateral series.

Brian Lara

Caribbean great Brian Lara scored 34 Test tons in his career, but none at Lord’s. He hasn’t scored a ton at the venue in any format.

Lara played six Test innings at the iconic venue but could only manage a highest score of 54.

Jacques Kallis

Even with 45 Test centuries and 62 international centuries in total, star South African batsman Jacques Kallis could not get on the honours board at the Lord’s.

Kallis also had five innings at Lord’s but could only get a highest score of 31.

Virat Kohli

Despite having 29 Test centuries to his name, India’s Virat Kohli has not scored a ton at the Lord’s. He is yet to score record a 100+ score at Lord’s across all formats of cricket. One of the rare record books where Virat Kohli is yet to feature. However, Kohli might still have a chance or two, with India set to tour England next year.
