Yellow weather warning issued for thunderstorms and heavy downpours – London Business News | Londonlovesbusiness.com
The Met Office has issued a weather warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain and flooding is expected to hit parts of the UK on Monday.
There is a yellow weather warning in place for the east of Scotland, northeast England and Wales for the thunderstorms until midnight on Monday.
The Met Office’s yellow weather warning says, “Areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue to affect parts of the UK.
“The extent of these thunderstorms is uncertain and, whilst many places will miss them, some places may see 30 to 40 mm of rain fall in less than an hour and perhaps over 60-80 mm in one or two places. Lightning strikes will be additional hazards.
“The greatest chance of impacts is across eastern Scotland this afternoon (before reducing this evening), as well as parts of Wales and the West Midlands, where the risk continues into the first part of Monday night.”
The forecasters also gave guidance on what to do if you think you are in danger of being struck by lightening, “If you find yourself outside and hear thunder, protect yourself by finding a safe enclosed shelter (such as a car).
“Do not shelter under or near trees, or other structures which may be struck by lightning. If you are on an elevated area move to lower ground. Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
