The ‘Italy Run’ on 22/9 in London for Sports Day – News from Embassies – Ansa.it

It is the first ‘Italy run’ ever organised in London and is intended to celebrate the ‘Day of Italian Sport in the World’. It has been announced for 22 September by the Consulate General of Italy in the British capital. The initiative – which counts among its testimonials two icons of Italian sport in the world such as Gianfranco Zola and Roberto Di Matteo – will run along a 5 km route, between Holland Park and the streets of the Kensington district and “will be open not only to running enthusiasts but also to beginners of all ages and nationalities. Thanks to the partner companies of the Italy run, there will be prizes for the winners of the three categories for women and men in the race: adult, over 65, junior. But – the Consulate emphasised – not only the winners will be rewarded: ‘at the end of the event there will also be a drawing of the participants’ bib numbers to award further prizes’. The thousand participants in the race will receive a kit that includes “a blue shirt with the event logo and the Italian flag: an evocative ‘blue wave’ will thus cross the Kensington district that day, giving a touch of tricolour to the city streets”. At the arrival point of the race, the ‘Italy Village’ will be set up where the sponsors of the event will display their products, “offering an opportunity to promote Made in Italy and make known some of the excellence of our country”.

Organised in collaboration with the Municipality of Kensington and Chelsea, the ‘Italy Run’ will not just be a race, however, but – the Consulate explained – also “an opportunity to do good: the proceeds from the registrations will in fact be donated to two charitable organisations, the Eagle Foundation, which fights against health-related poverty, and the Kensington-Chelsea Foundation, committed to social projects in London.

In the framework of the celebrations of the ‘Day of Italian Sport in the World’ the ‘Italy Run’ will represent – concluded the Consulate – “a significant moment of aggregation for the vast Italian community in London, as well as an opportunity to spread the values of sport and solidarity by offering concrete support to charitable projects. Information on how to register and participate is available on the dedicated website: https://italyrunlondon.co.uk/’
