NY Jets vs Minnesota Vikings predictions: Our expert picks for Week 5 game in London

The Jets (2-2) head to the United Kingdom as they take on the Vikings (4-0) from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Sunday morning in Week 5.

It was a disaster for the Jets in Week 4, as they fell short and were the victim of the biggest upset of the NFL weekend in a 10-9 defeat at the hands of the Broncos at MetLife Stadium.

The more concerning part coming out of the disappointing loss is the health of 40-year-old QB Aaron Rodgers, who had a noticeable limp after being tackled with the weight of Denver’s Malcolm Roach being put on his surgically repaired left Achilles late in the fourth quarter.

After cruising to a 28-7 lead after three quarters, Minnesota survived a furious Packers’ rally to hold on for a 31-29 victory at Lambeau Field.

The Vikings are now only one of two teams (Chiefs) that enter Week 5 undefeated.

This matchup leads off the first of three matchups taking place in London this season, with the Jaguars-Bears (Oct. 13) and Patriots-Jaguars (Oct. 20) in the ensuing weeks.

Bert Bainbridge

The pick: Vikings 27, Jets 17

Here’s why: Not only do the Jets have to travel to London with a clearly hobbled Rodgers, but they also have to face one of the best and most underrated defenses in the Vikings. Sam Darnold, whose played like one of, if not the best QBs in the league through the first month, gets his revenge on the team that drafted him third overall, making it a long day for Gang Green, who loses this one by double digits and is under .500 heading into a crucial home matchup against the division leading Bills in Week 6.

Art Stapleton

The pick: Jets 31, Vikings 27

Here’s why: Aaron Rodgers is angry. You won’t like Aaron when he’s angry. As poor as the Jets were against Denver, I think they bring their ‘A’ game to London. This defense has to come with an edge and Sauce Gardner has to treat his showdown with Justin Jefferson differently. It’s a chance to answer his critics. The last thing Gang Green needs is Sam Darnold dusting this franchise, so I’ll play a hunch and back Rodgers’ ability to drag the rest of this offense to far greater heights than where they were last Sunday in the rain.

Vincent Mercogliano

The pick: Vikings 24, Jets 23

Here’s why: I think the Jets will respond to last week’s disappointment and play much better, with a real chance for Aaron Rodgers to pull this one out late if they keep it close enough. But it’s time for GM Joe Douglas to repent for the mistake he made by selling low on Sam Darnold in favor of whiffing on Zach Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick back in 2021. Darnold is playing with a massive chip on his shoulder and the Vikings look like the class of the NFC. They’ll be tough to beat.

Steve Edelson

The pick: Vikings 24, Jets 17

Here’s why: Seeing Aaron Rodgers hobbling around the field last game was a reminder of just how tough this season could be. And the Vikings’ defense is good and Sam Darnold is highly motivated.

Chris Iseman

The pick: Jets 17, Vikings 13

Here’s why: I think the Jets will bounce back from the mess against the Broncos, though I don’t think this is going to be an easy game by any means. The defense should be able to do enough to limit Minnesota’s defense, but of course it would only be fitting if Sam Darnold lit the Jets up. The Jets will escape London with a win.

Dave Rivera

The pick: Jets 24, Vikings 23

Here’s why: As bad as things looked for the Jets on Sunday against the Broncos, this league is funny. The Jets’ defense will be able to keep Sam Darnold and the Vikings’ offense from exploding. It will give Aaron Rodgers, who is not 100 percent, and the Jets’ offense the opportunity to stay in this game and win it late.

Bob Jordan

The pick: Vikings 28, Jets 14

Here’s why: MVP candidate Sam Darnold beat his old team 19-14 on behalf of the Carolina Panthers in 2021 when he threw for 234 yards in the first half, 16 more than in any first half during his three years in the Meadowlands, so we’ve seen this movie before.

Brian Marron

The pick: Jets 27, Vikings 20

Here’s why: If the Jets ever needed extra motivation for a win, the urgency to bounce back from last week’s disaster would certainly provide just that. The Vikings’ ability to run the ball could cause issues, but look for Aaron Rodgers and the offense to be laser-focused after its slew of mental mistakes against the Broncos.
