A new study has revealed the top ten highest-paid industries in the UK for university graduates to consider.

Qualified teachers for tuition, Teachers To Your Home, analysed July 2024 data from the Office for National Statistics on the average weekly earnings in for various industries in the UK.

Financial and Insurance Activities has been named the highest-paid industry to enter after leaving university in the UK, with average weekly earnings of £1,361. Roles in this industry include claims examiner, financial analyst, and insurance appraiser.

In second place is Mining and Quarrying, with average weekly earnings of £1,288. Many different diplomas and degrees aid in qualifying for a career in the industry, including civil engineering, geophysics, and earth sciences.

The third highest-paid industry in the UK is Information and Communication. People who work in this sector earn a weekly average of £1,161. Cyber security professionals, IT managers, and graphic designers are just some of the numerous roles in this sector.

Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities is the fourth highest-paid industry, with average weekly earnings of £1,017. Some of the careers in this industry include microbiologists, veterinarians, and psychologists.

Taking fifth place is Manufacturing – Chemicals and Man-Made Fibres. This sector reports average weekly earnings of £989. Quality control technicians, chemical process engineers, and production chemists are just some of the many roles in this industry that graduates can consider.

Electricity, Gas and Water Supply roles earn an average of £888 a week, ranking them as the sixth highest-paid industry to enter after leaving university in the UK. Within this industry, graduates can consider various areas, such as finance, engineering, HR, and sales.

In seventh place is Manufacturing – Engineering and Allied Industries, which has average weekly earnings of £841. Aerospace engineering, geochemists, and naval architects are all possible careers in this industry.

Construction is the eighth highest-paid industry in the UK, with average weekly earnings of £777. Some popular careers in this industry include inspectors, bricklayers, and architects.

In ninth place is Wholesale Trade, with reported average weekly earnings of £759. Merchandisers, sales managers, and customer service advisors are just a few of the careers available in this industry.

Manufacturing – Basic Metals and Metal Products takes tenth place with average weekly earnings of £748. University courses on general engineering and materials sciences contribute towards qualifications for roles in this industry.

On the other end of the scale, Accommodation and Food Service Activities is the lowest-paid industry in the UK, with average weekly earnings of only £329.
