People told to avoid major London station in rush hour

Although the fire was put out quickly, it burned cables along the tracks.

Network Rail engineers have been repairing the cables, but services will be affected through the rush hour until the end of the day.

The track – normally used by London Overground, Southern and Thameslink – has been out of action all day.

Passengers have been told to avoid London Bridge station.

Passengers travelling to Gatwick and Luton Airports in particular should allow plenty of extra time and check their journey before setting off.

Train operators have issued advise to passengers ahead of the rush hour commute.

Southern

Southern warned that services will be ‘very busy’ this afternoon.

Passengers were told to avoid London Bridge after 4pm and go to London Victoria instead.

Services could be cancelled or diverted to London Victoria. Trainsbetween London Victoria and London Bridge will be cancelled.

Thameslink

Trains between Brighton and Bedford will be diverted between East Croydon and London Blackfriars, and won’t stop at London Bridge.

Services between Horsham and Peterborough are diverted between East Croydon and London Blackfriars, meaning they won’t stop at London Bridge. These trains will stop at Earlswood and Salfords additionally.

Trains between Brighton and Cambridge, between Three Bridges and Bedford, and between East Grinstead and Bedford will be cancelled.

London Overground

London Overground will only run between New Cross Gate and Highbury & Islington.
