London Underground: Viral video reveals dirt in seats

A video posted on social media has revealed how much dirt could be lurking in some seats on the Underground.

The video – which has since been taken down by the user – was filmed on the Northern line by a cleaning firm as part of a publicity stunt.

Steven James, who made the film and put it on his company’s social media page, claimed “excessive” dirt was found while cleaning four seats on the Underground.

It was created and uploaded without permission from Transport for London (TfL).

TfL said making the video may have put other passengers at risk, because of the dangers of emptying a bucket of water on a platform near the live rail.

A TfL spokesperson said its cleaning schedule for Tube trains consists of two different levels of cleaning – daily pre-service cleans and a deep clean every 28 days.
