WEALDSTONE TAKE OVER THE COACHING AND MANAGEMENT OF BRUNEL UNIVERSITY OF LONDON FOOTBALL TEAM

As part of our blossoming partnership with Brunel University of London, we are delighted to announce that we are now working in partnership with the UNION OF BRUNEL STUDENTS and have taken on the responsibility of coaching and management for the University’s football provision.

The University have four Men’s teams and one Women’s team playing in the University BUCS leagues. The University has a real ambition to become a destination for talented athletes, including footballers, and Wealdstone will play a key part in improving the standards of coaching the students receive.

As well as providing coaching and management expertise, Wealdstone will also give Brunel Students, who are making the grade, access to the Wealdstone FC pathway and Academy training programme, based at the University Sports Park.

“The Union of Brunel students are really excited by this partnership and the opportunities that it will bring to our student football club,” said Chris Hepworth, the Student Activities Manager at the Union of Brunel Students.

“We are looking forward to watching this partnership develop our club’s performance and engagement and produce footballers that can go on to future success with Wealdstone.”

The Student coaching programme will be overseen by Dale Welch, Head of the Wealdstone Academy based at Brunel.

“With a flourishing academy on site this feels a natural extension to what we can offer,” said Dale.

“I know our professionalism and coaching expertise will benefit the students and we can’t wait to get started.”

For talented footballers who wish to combine football and University studies, scholarships may be available, for further information on this visit the Brunel University of London website.

As the overall partnership grows, Brunel University of London students are more and more visible on match-days at Grosvenor Vale, with many students volunteering to take on match-day operational tasks helping to improve the overall match-day experience for supporters.

At the last game we were delighted to welcome two Brunel students from Cyprus who were delighted to meet Wealdstone’s very own Cypriot International Anthony Georgiou. Eleni Charilaou and Despina Michaelidou, both Occupational Therapist students, are pictured on the pitch with Anthony.
