World’s most expensive Christmas tree worth more than a 7-bedroom London mansion
Christmas is all about indulgence, celebration and inevitably spending your hard-earned money.
But some might say that spending millions on a Christmas tree might be a bit too much.
However, that did not deter a luxury beachfront hotel in Spain that unveiled what has been dubbed the “world’s most expensive Christmas tree” back in 2019.
The tree was valued at an eye-watering £11.9 million and displayed in the lobby of the Kempinski Hotel Bahia in Estepona, near Marbella, Spain.
For comparison, there are several properties listed on Zoopla that are selling for over £10 million in London. Most of them are in the west in areas like Notting Hill and Knightsbridge.
There is one listing for a terraced house for sale in Thurloe Square, Knightsbridge SW7.
It has seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms and six reception rooms, and is selling for £10,950,000, which is still a million quid less than the cost of the world’s most expensive Christmas tree.
The staggering price of the tree wasn’t due to its size or the tree itself but the luxurious decorations it was adorned with.
The tree was designed by British artist Debbie Wingham, known for her extravagant creations, and was dripping with real diamonds, sapphires, and designer jewelry from brands like Bvlgari, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Chanel.
Each decoration was meticulously crafted, featuring three-carat pink diamonds, four-carat sapphires, and oval red diamonds, among other gems.
The tree also included Art Deco-inspired pieces such as martini glasses, perfume bottles, and feathers, alongside more traditional ornaments like snowflakes and baubles, made with 24-karat gold and diamond dust.
The tree also incorporated edible treats and items like 3D-printed chocolate peacocks.
Wingham collaborated with digital artist Gary James McQueen and resin artist Debra Frances Bean to bring her vision to life.
“Inspired by the verdant feathers of a peacock and the modernist Art Deco era, the tree features unique martini glasses, feathers, perfume bottles, and even 3D-printed chocolate peacocks,” the resort said at the time.
The Christmas tree became a sensation when it was unveiled at a special reception in 2019.
