A look back at 2024 – London TravelWatch

06 January 2025

It was a busy year once again for the small but mighty team at London TravelWatch. From major campaigns and impactful events through to small but crucial wins, we continue to speak out for those travelling in London on the issues that matter most to them.

One of our biggest successes in 2024 was speaking out against the chaos facing those travelling through Euston Station. Overcrowding, lack of information and last minute platform announcements were creating a situation that was frustrating for passengers – but was also dangerous. We spoke out on these issues on behalf of passengers, and our statement was widely featured in the media including The Standard, BBC News and The  Guardian.

So we of course welcomed the five point plan to deal with the ongoing problems at the station, and we continue to meet with key industry stakeholders to monitor the changes and make sure they meet the needs of the travelling public who need the station to be fit for purpose.

We also issued our new report The Next Stop: Making Buses Better. Using detailed research and data, we uncovered the widespread use of buses – they are in fact the most used form of public transport in London – but also identified that slow speeds and unreliability continue to put people off using buses. We called on Transport for London (TfL) to make further improvements to enhance the passenger experience, and we look forward to an update from them later in 2025.

Once again, the report received widespread media coverage – including inspiring some people to attempt to outrun the bus!

Casework and consultations

Alongside our campaigns and research, our fantastic casework team resolved hundreds of passenger appeals, and secured thousands of pounds in refunds and goodwill gestures. We also responded to over 200 consultations on a wide range of issues.

Looking forward

We are ready for another busy year ahead! We’ll continue to work closely with TfL and other transport providers to ensure that people can travel safely and efficiently, and that transport is accessible for all.
