Adam Amin references infamous ‘deep drive to left’ call on Nick Castellanos London homer

It was an ode to the call during an on-air apology by Brennaman, formerly a play-by-play announcer for the Reds, back in 2020.

Brennaman, during an August game that season, was caught on live television using a gay slur.

Later on, he was apologizing to listeners when Castellanos got into one.

Brennaman chose to interrupt himself to make the call, saying a “drive into deep left,” before returning to his apology. 

“I made a comment earlier tonight that I guess went out over the air that I am deeply ashamed of … I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith,” Brennaman said as Castellanos launched a pitch to left field against the Royals, “as there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos that will be a home run and so that’ll make it a 4-0 ball game.”

“I don’t know if I’ll be putting on this headset again,” Brennaman added.

Brennaman hasn’t worked another professional sports broadcast since, and his only on-air work has been calling Roberto Clemente League games in Puerto Rico and high school sports in Cincinnati.

Castellanos finished Saturday going 1-for-4 in the win.
