Aldi’s ‘bottomless’ pigs in blankets restaurant is reopening — for two days only

No Christmas dinner is complete without pigs in blankets, so to mark the start of the festive season, Aldi is giving the people what they want.

The supermarket’s bottomless pigs in blankets (PIB) restaurant is set to be back with a bang(er) on November 29 —  for two days only.

After a sell-out success last year, Aldi is once again offering guests the chance to try multiple varieties of PIB, this time including a ‘world’s first’ vegan foot-long creation.

It seems like a pretty safe bet given Brits are set to munch 668 million of the bacon-wrapped delicacies this Christmas; the equivalent of 11.2 per person. Not to mention the restaurant dished out a whopping 10,000 pigs in blankets to hundreds of visitors last time around. That’s a hell of a lot of pork.

The eatery is inspired by the swanky Soho establishment Bob Bob Ricard, famed for its ‘press for champagne’ button.

Aldi’s restaurant will once again have a ‘press for PIB’ button, ensuring you barely have to lift a finger to usher pigs in blankets directly to your table.

Located on Bethnal Green Road, in Shoreditch, it’s good news for Londoners, the UK’s number one PIB lovers, who will tuck in to an average of 14 each during the festive period.

And, even better, all proceeds from the pop-up go to the charity Neighbourly.

What’s in your pigs in blankets?

Based on a 10 pack of Aldi’s specially selected pigs in blankets, two pigs in blankets contain the following:

  • 8.5g of fat – this is considered high by the NHS
  • 3g of saturated fat – this is considered high by the NHS
  • 0.2g of sugar
  • 0.50g of salt – this is considered high by the NHS

For reference, adults should be having no more than 6g of salt a day, according to the NHS. This means that four pigs in blankets accounts for a third of your daily intake.

The average man should have no more than 30g of saturated fat a day, while women should have no more than 20g. This means that four pigs in blankets would account for just under a third of a woman’s total recommended daily intake.
