Biden confirms delivery of long-range cruise missiles for Ukraine – London Business News | Londonlovesbusiness.com

The US President Joe Biden has announced on Thursday that Ukraine will receive the “Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) long-range munition,” but they are not allowed to be used inside Russia.

The US has allocated military aid for Ukraine worth $7.9 billion and the Department of Defense will allocate all funds that remain to the Security Assistance Initiative to Ukraine, this will be in place until his term in the White House ends.

President Biden said, “I also have authorized $5.5 billion in Presidential Drawdown Authority to ensure this authority does not expire, so that my Administration can fully utilise the funding appropriated by Congress to support the drawdown of US equipment for Ukraine and then replenish US stockpiles.”

Ukraine will also be allocated through the US Department of Defense $2.4 billion for air defence systems, unmanned aerial systems, air-to-ground munitions, including the JSOW and further Patriot air defence battery and AMRAAM missiles over the next 12 months.

This will help Ukraine to defend their cities and its people from Russian attacks, the US President said.

Biden added in a statement, “To build the capacity of Ukraine’s air force, I have directed the Department of Defense to expand training for Ukrainian F-16 pilots, including by supporting the training of an additional 18 pilots next year.”

The JSOW missile can be used on the US provided F-16s and has a range of 130km from high altitude.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has thanked Biden he said, “Ukraine and the United States remain close allies dedicated to defending freedom, human life, and shared security in Europe and beyond.

“We have always valued the strong bipartisan support in the United States and among Americans for Ukraine’s just cause of defeating Russian aggression.”
