Mr Hajjar played in the 1st XV rugby team, while captaining a cricket team and playing tennis with the men’s doubles, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He also undertook an internship with Danone, the French food giant, in Paris.

Mr Hajjar studied physics, chemistry, maths and further maths at A level, achieving three A*s and an A.

He is recorded as a rugby player at the University of Pennsylvania for the 2023-24 season on the National College Rugby website, but it is unclear whether he has actually played any games.

Mr Hajjar speaks English, French and Arabic fluently. His Instagram account shows an emoji of the Syrian flag, followed by the French and English flags.

Ms Biden isn’t the first relative of a president rumoured to have dated a Brit.

Malia Obama, the daughter of former President Barack Obama, is reported to have had a long-term relationship with fellow Harvard classmate Rory Farquharson, who attended the Rugby public school in Warwickshire.

Ms Biden began attending the University of Pennsylvania this year after graduating from her school in Delaware and looking around the campus with her grandfather in 2022.
