Now here’s an interesting fashion week-linked collab. Calvin Klein and Nensi Dojaka have unveiled an underwear-to-ready-to-wear link-up “reflecting the brands’ shared inspiration: the power of female sensuality”.
We’re told that Nensi Dojaka for Calvin Klein “pairs the London-based womenswear designer’s intricate visual language with the innovation and design codes core to Calvin Klein. Anchored in women’s underwear, pieces articulate the interplay between strength and softness – celebrating both in equal measure”.
It makes sense given Nensi Dojaka’s famously sensual underwear-as-outerwear style and, of course, Calvin Klein being one of the world’s ‘power brands’ in the intimates arena.
The pieces were shown on Nensi Dojaka’s SS25 runway (although they’re available to buy now), with an offer that “directs attention to specific areas of the body: the collarbone, the hips, the back. Fine harness straps frame the chest, and sheer layers highlight rather than conceal. Sculptural metal hardware, evolved from the Calvin Klein archives, appears as a focal accent throughout: at once rigid and organic, it directly celebrates duality”.
And the two labels said that “purpose and wearability rest at the very core of the collection: multi-layered petal cups are designed to invisibly enhance, while featherweight knits silently sculpt. Calvin Klein’s highly-developed technical engineering allows for support throughout”.
Meanwhile languid slip dresses are formed with sculptural hardware, and “gently oversized” tailoring counterbalances the delicacy of the other pieces.
And as with so many collections at the moment, it all comes with a “nineties spirit made modern through a meticulous attention to detail”.
There is, of course, a supporting campaign with actor Rebecca Ferguson and models Jill Kortleve and Mona Tougaard photographed by Harley Weir against a London backdrop, in shots intended to be “powerfully feminine and boldly sensual”.
Dojaka said the collection is an “exploration of femininity. But I’ve never wanted to approach femininity the ‘normal’ way. I want to re-paint the image of women, showing both sides: the vulnerability, but also the strength that characterises them. For me, femininity is about embracing the contrast that lives within us.”
And she added that “Calvin Klein has always been on my mood board”.
Meanwhile Eva Serrano, Calvin Klein’s global brand president, saids that the designer is “truly doing something special in womenswear. Her vision and talent are next level, and when I think about the creative partners that have impacted Calvin Klein, Nensi is a part of that history”.
The collab is available now at select Calvin Klein stores and key retail partners, as well as via each brand’s webstore.
