Chaos at UK airport as terminal evacuation has passengers ‘missing flights’

Scores of stranded passengers have been pictured outside the terminal of a major UK airport. London Gatwick is currently dealing with the aftermath of a fire alarm activation at its south terminal.

Passengers were swiftly evacuated from the building, however a spokesman confirmed to Express.co.uk that it was a false alarm. Those evacuated are now being allowed back in through security, but this has prompted a mass of rage from people.

Some claim the procedure of going back through security on top of the evacuation had forced them to miss flights.

The full statement from Gatwick Airport says: “Our South Terminal Departure Lounge was evacuated this morning following a fire alarm activation. Our dedicated Airport Fire Service attended and confirmed there was no fire.

“The Departure Lounge is now open again and we are processing remaining passengers back through security as quickly as we can. Huge thanks to everyone cooperating this morning, and to the Fire Service for their swift attendance.
