LONDON — As an autumnal chill enters the air, brat summer has officially become brat fall. To celebrate — and to kick off London Fashion Week with a bang — H&M’s fall campaign star Charli XCX fronted a fun-filled performance in Stratford.
Wearing a slinky charcoal dress and black wraparound sunglasses, and with a green banner triumphantly waving behind her, Charli XCX was every inch brat, and the crowd — mainly young men indulging in a sniff or two of poppers — went wild.
VIPs including Naomi Campbell, Iris Law, Amelia Gray, Manu Rios and Lila Moss also dotted the crowd.
“They really spent a lot of money on this,” the singer wryly pointed out during her set, and she was right; H&M spared no cost.
The brand certainly made the trek worth it, bussing Harris Reed attendees straight from the designer’s fashion show at the Tate Modern all the way to the Copper Box Arena.
Classical music at Reed’s show was quickly replaced by the bone-rattling bass of remixes of Charli XCX’s “360” and other songs from her album.
Those who wanted a break from the dance floor snacked on cheeseburgers and fried pork buns, cooling down with a complimentary brat-branded fan in the smoking area.
The installations and interactive elements there were courtesy of artists Maximo Recio, Weirdcore and Albert Moya.
After Charli XCX’s performance, DJ Jamie XX took over, chartreuse green lights shifting to firetruck red.
