Coldplay announce new UK tour dates in London and Hull – including world first for stadium show
Coldplay have announced six UK shows for next year, and say they are the only gigs they will perform in Europe in 2025.
Two of the dates are in Hull – the first time the band have ever played in the city – with 50% of the tickets reserved for local fans.
Those with a HU, YO, DN or LN postcode will be able to buy tickets the evening before they go on general sale.
The remaining four dates are for Wembley Stadium in London.
In a world first for a stadium show, the Wembley gigs will be powered entirely by solar, wind and kinetic energy.
All the concerts are scheduled for August.
Tickets go on general sale at 9am on 27 September.
Fans who pre-order the band’s new album, Moon Music, will gain access to a ticket pre-sale on the morning of 26 September.
Coldplay will also be making a limited number of affordable £20 tickets available via Ticketmaster on 22 November.
‘It will stop venues closing’
The band added 10% of the proceeds from the gigs will go to Music Venue Trust, a UK charity that supports grassroots music venues.
Recent anger over the price of Oasis reunion tickets shooting up by hundreds of pounds after fans had waited for hours to buy them has highlighted excessive ticket costs at a time when many smaller venues are struggling to stay open.
The fury over dynamic pricing has led the government and the UK’s competition watchdog to pledge they will investigate further.
Responding to Coldplay’s donation, Mark Davyd, CEO of Music Venue Trust, said it was “fantastic” to see Coldplay “celebrating their own pathway to Wembley by giving back to the grassroots music venues that supported them”.
He added: “The band’s support really will stop venues closing, make tours happen and bring the joy of live music to thousands of people.”
Kinetic flooring and power bikes
As well as solar, wind and kinetic energy powering the Wembley concerts, one of the satellite stages at each show will also be fully powered by energy generated by the audience via kinetic flooring and power bikes.
Coldplay have been touring their record-breaking Music Of The Spheres World Tour for two years and will be taking it to Australia later this year. It is the biggest tour by any group ever, according to Billboard.
In June, the eco-conscious band announced that the tour has so far produced 59% less CO2 emissions than their previous stadium tour in 2016/17.
They also revealed that 9 million trees have been planted, with a further million to be planted before the end of the year.
Coldplay, made up of members Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion, formed in 1997 in London after meeting at University College London.
One of the best-selling music acts of all time, they have released nine studio albums and are best known for their tracks Yellow, Clocks, Fix You, Viva La Vida and Something Just Like This.
Coldplay will play Craven Park Stadium in Hull on the 18 and 19 August 2025. They will play Wembley Stadium on the 22, 23, 26, 27, 30 and 31 August.
The ticket pre-sale starts on Thursday 26 September, with the general sale starting on Friday 27 September.
Their album, Moon Music, is out on Friday 4 October.
