Cornish Pirates suffer from ‘hangover’ in 26-15 London Scottish loss

Cornish Pirates joint head coach Gavin Cattle says he is unhappy with how his side played in their 26-15 loss at London Scottish.

The Pirates, who lost to a last-second try at home to champions Ealing last week, were 21-5 down at half time as they failed to pick up a bonus point in the capital.

“We were too easy to beat, in all honesty,” Cattle told BBC Radio Cornwall.

“I thought Scottish out-enthused us on both sides of the ball.

“It felt a bit like a bit of a hangover from last week – a great performance last week, but we spoke all week leading into this about you’ve got to front up week in, week out or you get dished up.

“I think Scottish did enough in that first half an hour and then left us too much to do.”

Tries from George Hammond, Bailey Ransom and Lucas Friday put Scottish 21-0 up inside the first half-hour before Artur Relton went over for Pirates on the stroke of half-time.

Sam Riley’s try 10 minutes after the break put the game beyond Pirates’ reach before Harry Hocking and Dan Hiscocks went over for the visitors.

“I’m really disappointed,” added Cattle. “There were some choice words at half time.

“We didn’t look like a Pirates side DNA-wise in that first half, and then second half we fronted up but had a lot of uncharacteristic individual errors and we couldn’t get a foothold in any facet of the game.”
