Deepti scored a six on the 98th ball of the run chase to win The Hundred final for the London Spirit women’s team by four wickets at Lord’s on Sunday.

Star Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma kept her nerves calm and hit a six on the 98th ball to win the Hundred final for the London Spirit women’s team on Sunday (August 18). In the summit clash played at the Lord’s, the Tammy Beaumont-led Welsh Fire side posted a total of 115 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 100 balls. The 116-run target didn’t prove too much for the London-based team, which chased it down for the loss of six wickets in 98 balls.

Wicketkeeper-batter Georgia Redmayne, who opened the innings, top-scored for the London Spirit by making 34 runs from 32 balls. Captain Heather Knight scored 24 runs, and Danielle Gibson made a contribution of 22 runs from nine balls. During her stay at the crease, she hammered five fours.

Deepti, who came out to bat at No. 6, faced as many as 16 deliveries to score 16 runs.

For Welsh Fire, South African pacer Shabnim Ismail picked up three wickets for 24 runs in 20 balls.

Earlier, the Welsh team rode on Australian spinner Jess Jonassen’s 54 off 41 balls to post a fighting total. The Aussie smashed as many as eight fours during her stay at the crease. Apart from her West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews scored 24 runs and Beaumont smashed 21 runs from 16 balls.

Eva Gray and Sarah Glenn were the top wicket-takers for the London Spirit. They both accounted for the dismissal of two batters each. In addition to them, Deepti also picked up one wicket for 23 runs in 20 balls.

London Spirit captain Knight was full of praise for Deepti for her all-round show in the tournament and said she held her nerves to take the side through.

“Not the best watch, to be honest; it was nervy chasing, but Deepti is an experienced player; she held her nerves and did it for us. Our international players were great. Everyone has played their roles well. I think we recruited really well, picking Meg (Lanning) and Georgia (Elwiss). Absolutely stoked with Deepti; she has been brilliant with both bat and ball. Eva Gray was good with the ball as well.”
