Drake London and Darnell Mooney have argument for NFL’s best WR duo

For much of my life, the Falcons have had elite receiving cores, and it’s continued into 2024 with Darnell Mooney, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts.

The highest-drafted tight end in NFL history has finally started to realize his full potential with Kirk Cousins under center. Pitts’ 91 yards on four receptions were the best marks of his season, but it was his two touchdowns that marked a career-first.

Pitts caught two touchdowns, but it’s the wide receiver duo that is the topic of this blog. Before the team’s Week 8 contest against the Bucs, I talked about how impactful the pair of wideouts had been. The narrative only strengthened over the weekend. Darnell Mooney and Drake London now have an argument as the league’s best receiver duo.

The Falcons have the only wideout duo with at least 500 yards receiving each. London and Mooney have combined for 1,025 yards, 525 for the former and 500 for the latter through eight weeks. They’ve also combined for nine of the Falcon’s 14 total touchdowns through the air. The club finally realized its investment in London, and it didn’t take long for Mooney to have a similar impact.

Both rank in the top 20 of the NFL in receiving yards and top 15 in receiving touchdowns. Among wide receivers, London ranks 12th in yards and tied for 4th in touchdowns, and Mooney ranks 14th in yards and tied for 12th in touchdowns.

It’s also fair to expect production to improve as the year progresses. Not only will Mooney and London become more comfortable within Zac Robinson’s system, but the offensive coordinator will also have a better understanding of their strengths. Additionally, the Falcons should expect Kirk Cousins to improve as he gets more comfortable in Atlanta’s offense and with his Achilles.

Drake London should finish the year squarely as a top 10 wideout, with Darnell Mooney not far behind. The Falcons have two studs.
