Finsbury Park stabbing: Teenage victim named

The teenager who died after being stabbed near Finsbury Park in north London on Thursday has been named as 19-year-old Ahmed Habib.

Met officers were called at 02:50 BST on Thursday to reports of two men injured in a car on Stroud Green Road, at the junction of Tollington Park.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, Mr Habib, from Islington in north London, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver of the car was also taken to hospital for treatment before being discharged.

The Met is investigating Mr Habib’s death as a murder and said there have been no arrests and its inquiries continue.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place on Mr Habib on Saturday.

Det Ch Insp Tony Kirk, who is leading the investigation for the Met, said: “We have established that the two men sustained their injuries in Seven Sisters Road close to Yonge Park before driving to Stroud Green Road where the car came to a stop.”

DCI Kirk asked anyone driving along that route around the time of the incident to “please check your dashcam footage in case you have captured anything that could help our investigation”, and requested residents to also check their doorbell cameras.

The Met’s Supt Annmarie Cowley, who is responsible for policing in Islington and Camden, said: “I know that news of this incident will cause a lot of concern in the local community.

“Residents can expect to see officers in the area over the coming days and I would encourage you to speak with them should you have any concerns.”

Anyone with information is urged to call police or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
