England star striker Harry Kane was in attendance on Monday at the Peter May Sports Centre, home of his former youth team Ridgeway Rovers, in Walthamstow as the 31-year-old was honoured with a life-size statue.

The statue, reportedly worth £7,200 found a home at the space where the country’s all-time top-scorer used to play as a kid, after propositions to display the piece at Weaver Line Overground station in Chingford and Ridgeway Par, another place the English skipper used to play during childhood, fell through.

Kane has been a constant presence in the top goal-scoring echelons since he broke out at Tottenham Hotspurs, before making a switch to German giants Bayern Munich in 2023.

Kane has continued to thrive in front of goal despite crossing the 30-year threshold and has found a rich-goal-scoring vein in the Bavarian capital and reiterated his belief despite the marching time.

“I think there’s a perception when you get to your thirties that you’re coming to an end but for me I’m performing at the highest level I’ve ever performed and feel as good as I’ve ever felt,” said Kane at the unveiling.

Kane expressed his excitement over the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 in the Americas and spoke of his dream to try and bring the coveted piece of silverware home.

“I don’t like to look too far ahead and in my career I never have, the World Cup is going to be exciting,” the 31-yer-old added.

“In America it will be an incredible occasion and ultimately it’s about trying to win that, looking at where you are, where to improve and it will be no different in a couple of years,” he asserted.

England remain in the hunt for a major trophy since the World Cup triumph on home soil all the way back in the year 1966 and have reeled in German coach Thomas Tuchel to serve at the helm of the Three Lions following the departure of former boss Gareth Southgate, who led the Englishmen to a quarterfinal at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and two successive finals in the Euros in 2020 and 2024.

“I think we need to win a major tournament. We’ve come close on a couple of occasions and the next step is for me and the other boys to win,” Kane stated.

“We have a new coach coming in March. He’ll be great for us, he has vast experience in the big competitions, he’ll bring a great energy to the team and he’ll put his own stamp and identity on the way we play tactically,” the Englishman concluded.
