Heartbroken family pay tribute to ‘wonderful’ woman, 57, killed in flat

A ‘heartbroken family’ has paid tribute to Margaret Cunningham after she was found with stab wounds in south east London.

Flowers and cards with tributes to the 57-year-old have been left at the scene on Greenland Quay in Rotherhithe.

The victim was rushed to hospital on Friday afternoon but died later that evening.

One message left at the scene read: ‘My beautiful sister I’m sorry I wasn’t there to protect you I will always love you and miss you so much.

‘My heart is truly broken. ‘RIP your loving sister Linda.’

While a neighbour, 39-year-old Tracey Garrish, told Metro:  ‘She was the most wonderful lady you will ever meet.

‘She was so friendly and would chat to anyone. We are all so upset. She was the definition of a good neighbour.’ 

A 61-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder after he entered the River Thames has now been charged with murder.

The suspect, Andrew Cunningham, had been taken to hospital as a precaution, Maritime Radio reports.

He’s set to appear at Croydon magistrates court later today (December 2).

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, who is leading the investigation, said: ‘We received multiple calls from members of the public close to the scene with concerns for the victim yesterday afternoon.

‘Officers together with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance responded quickly but sadly, the woman died in hospital yesterday evening.

‘Our Specialist Crime Command are continuing enquiries today and at this stage, we believe that this was an isolated incident with the man and woman known to each other.’
