The City of London is wrapping up the 2024 construction season, following another year of important infrastructure projects.

Building projects to spark new housing developments, resilient infrastructure and better transit were the focus, along with improving active transportation connections and ensuring our roads are safe for everyone.

London is growing fast, and undertaking these projects now is essential to ensure our city has the necessary infrastructure it needs to support its growth. New bridges, bike lanes, watermains, and roundabouts were some of the many projects this year that continue to help us enhance movement, improve our infrastructure’s connectivity and reliability, and build a more inclusive community.

Construction can be challenging and on behalf of our project teams, the City of London wants to thank the community for their continued patience throughout this construction season.

2024 highlights:

  • London Renew Construction program added new bus-only lanes and other transit infrastructure, while upgrading and replacing underground infrastructure to increase capacity and accommodate future growth.
  • New traffic signals were installed at multiple intersections and dozens of local streets were reconstructed through the Local Road Reconstruction Program and Infrastructure Renewal Program.
  • About 6.7 kilometres of new sidewalks were completed, and more than 10 kilometres of bike lanes were improved city-wide for smoother and safer bike rides
  • London’s rapid transit program continued to make progress with multiple phases underway as part of the East London Link and Wellington Gateway projects. The first rapid transit shelter was installed this year in Old East Village, featuring wayfinding, passenger seating area, security cameras, enhanced lighting, and other elements to accommodate large passenger loads and frequent and smooth transit operations.

  • Adelaide Underpass
  • Victoria Bridge Replacement
  • Downtown Loop Phase 3
  • East London Link Phase 2
  • Wellington Gateway Phase 1
