Louis Rees-Zammit statement made by Jacksonville Jaguars coach after NFL pain

Louis Rees-Zammit missed out on being selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars for Sunday’s London Games clash with the New England Patriots.

Despite hopes that Rees-Zammit might make his NFL debut on home turf, the Welsh star will have to wait longer as he remains a part of the Jaguars’ practice squad. This squad is crucial in preparing the main team for games, but players like Rees-Zammit can be called up to the first team up to three times a season.

With the Jaguars playing in the UK and the season well underway, fans speculated this could be Rees-Zammit’s chance to step up. NFL UK chief Henry Hodgson even hinted at a potential call-up earlier in the week, yet it appears Rees-Zammit’s inaugural season will be one of learning.

In the run-up to the game, Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor spoke about Rees-Zammit’s progress. “It’s been fun just to watch him grow in football,” he remarked.

“Every single week, you just see him get a little bit better throughout the drill portions into when he’s on the scout team serving the defence. He’s hungry for it. He is talented.”

The coach noted: “It’s new to him. Take anybody and drop him in a new sport and it’s at the professional level, there’s going to be a lot of learning. But he does have some physical skillset that’s fun to see and see what he can become moving forward.”

The Jaguars confirmed their latest roster changes on Saturday, promoting running back Jake Funk and defensive end Joe Gaziano, with Rees-Zammit not getting a mention.

The Jaguars were victorious against the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium, claiming their second win of the season in a 32-16 romp.
