Traffic has been trapped on the M25 in Kent after a serious crash (Picture: Highways England)

The M25 has closed in Kent after a motorbike rider and a driver crashed on the motorway.

The crash happened between junctions J5 and J6 at lunchtime, closing the carriageway in both directions.

Motorists face two-hour delays on the anticlockwise carriageway and 60-minute delays clockwise, National Highways said. The M26 is closed westbound between J3 and the M25 due to the crash.

It comes just hours after the M25 was shut in Essex after a van and lorry collided, injuring van driver and a passenger who were taken to hospital.

Heavy rain continues to wreak havoc on roads and railways as the Met Office issued a new amber weather warning. Part of the M25 at Wisley Interchange has reopened after it was forced to shut following more rain overnight.
