Man fighting for life after horror stabbing at London train station

A man is fighting for his life after a horor stabbing at a London train station.

The attack occurred at Barnes, south west London, earlier this morning, with the station closed as a result.

Police have confirmed that the man is now in hospital with “injuries that are consistent with stabbing” and are “considered to be life threatening.”

Officers remain at the scene with no trains calling at the station. Commuters are advised to use local bus services instead.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Barnes railway station at around 7.10am today (26 September) following reports of a serious assault.

“Paramedics also attended, and a person was taken to hospital with injuries that are consistent with stabbing and are considered to be life threatening.

“Enquiries into this incident are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 89 of 26 September.”

A top officer has said that there is “no place for violence” and that they’re working as fast as they can to investigate.

T/Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn said: “There is absolutely no place for violence on the railway network and detectives are working at pace to investigate the incident.

“The station will remain closed while our initial enquiries are carried out, and the public will see increased high-visibility patrols in the area and across the network to provide reassurance.”

A spokesperson for National Rail said: “Trains are currently unable to call at Barnes in either direction due to the police dealing with an incident at the station.

“You may use your ticket on London Bus routes 33 and 337 in the Barnes area at no extra cost.”
