The Metropolitan Police said the area around the US embassy in London has been evacuated and security agencies put on high alert.
A massive blast reportedly occurred outside the US Embassy in London on Friday. Confirming the incident, London’s Metropolitan Police said the area has cordoned off and explosion is being investigated. The blast comes amidst the ongoing crisis in the Middle East triggered by Israel’s brutal military campaign in Gaza, and the Russia-Ukraine war.
The embassy is located in Central London, one of the safest and high profile areas of the city. In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said the area around the embassy has been evacuated and security agencies put on high alert. They said that several buildings around the embassy have been evacuated and employees moved to the other buildings
The police have urged the citizens to maintain calm and cooperate with security agencies as the scale of threat is determined.
The US embassy also issued a statement saying the cause of the blast is being investigated.
Notably, the blast occurred around the same time when a suspicious package was found at London’s Gatwick Airport, prompting evacuation at one of the terminals at UK’s second busiest airport.
This is a developing story. More details will follow.
