NFL Week 5 odds, spreads, schedule: Vikings favored over Jets in London, plus several tight matchups

American football is back in the UK for NFL Week 5 as the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings duel at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The Vikes are favored by 2.5 points in the clash across the pond, and deservedly so: Minnesota has been the standout of the year thus far, with Sam Darnold, Justin Jefferson and Aaron Jones leading their team to a 4-0 start on a tough schedule. They’ve handled Super Bowl contenders three weeks in a row now: the San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers.

The Jets, meanwhile, are 2-2 coming off a loss to the Denver Broncos, who majored in defense and held Aaron Rodgers & Co. to just nine points.

Across the rest of the Week 5 schedule, the odds predict several close matchups and one familiar face as this week’s biggest favorite (again): San Francisco. The Niners head into Week 5 after righting the ship on Sunday against the Patriots and pulling their record to even. They’re favored by more than a touchdown at home against the Arizona Cardinals, who got beat down 42-14 by Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders.

Speaking of the Commanders, Daniels has been outstanding, with an 82.1 percent completion rate across four games, which is the best across any four games in NFL history. (You read that right!) His Commanders are 3.5-point favorites over the 1-3 Cleveland Browns, who haven’t scored more than 18 points in a game and lost on Sunday to an underdog Las Vegas Raiders team that was without star players Davante Adams and Maxx Crosby.

The other “big” favorites for Week 5 are the Seattle Seahawks (-6) against the New York Giants and the Kansas City Chiefs (-5) against the New Orleans Saints. Both the Seahawks and Chiefs are at home.

Most games for Week 5 are posting a spread around a field goal or shorter, and the closest games as of Monday’s lines are the Miami Dolphins (-1) at New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills (-1) at Houston Texans.

In terms of teams on the rise after Week 4, the Baltimore Ravens’ odds are closer than you might expect against the Cincinnati Bengals. Baltimore started 0-2 but looked like vintage Ravens in a Sunday Night Football dismantling of the previously undefeated Buffalo Bills. The Bengals, meanwhile, finally got a check in the win column, but against the abysmal Panthers. Should Baltimore be more of a favorite, or is the 2.5-point spread a fair prediction on the Bengals’ home field?

The Atlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers gets another close (2.5-point) spread. The Falcons are favored at home after winning another divisional matchup against the Saints, but the Bucs, too, are looking great after demolishing the Philadelphia Eagles. Kirk Cousins vs. Baker Mayfield should make for an exciting game of Thursday Night Football to kick off the week.

Week 5 is the first week with byes, so we won’t be seeing the Eagles, Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans or Los Angeles Chargers.
