Nick Luck’s William Hill Blog: Hoping Ruby can make a tidy Profit

The broadcaster and journalist has cast his expert eye over York’s racing on Friday.

RUBY’S PROFIT gets the vote in York’s Friday opener (2.15pm). The key to this race is It Ain’t Two’s Newmarket race at the Craven meeting, with several of these behind. That was strong form in the context of this, but seventh placed Lucid would have been right in among them with more luck. She was then put firmly in her place by the selection, even with the benefit of experience. As such Ruby’s Profit must be of above average ability for an early two year old and this stable has impressed with their growing flat string.

THEME PARK looks quite a big price and is tempting each way in the ten furlong handicap (2.45pm). Nigel Tinkler hasn’t had a bucket load of winners, but he’s had stacks of horses run really well of late, and this one has run very creditably on all three starts at York. His recent run over too short a distance at Newcastle should have blown the cobwebs away, and his pedigree and running style suggests strongly that he wants this trip.

TRUE CYAN can win the Michael Seely memorial (3.15pm). She was expected to take a hand in the Nell Gwyn, but the stable hadn’t hit full stride at that point and she raced against a prevailing front runner bias. She should have improved a nice bit for the experience and this looks a realistic level for her.

GREGORY looks overpriced in the Yorkshire Cup (3.45pm). As an immature horse last year, he did well very quickly, but that learning curve may have been a little steep by the autumn. Although he was behind Tower Of London in the Leger, he was too close to a solid pace and was very weak in the market, yet still ran with enormous credit. Clearly Tower Of London has made great strides in the Middle East, but there’s no reason to think that the selection hasn’t done just  as well for another year and he can put up a bold show.

UNDER SIEGE can win a really smart looking novice (4.15pm). He ran with huge promise behind Economics in the race at Newbury that is working out so well, and he should be right in the mix for his in form yard.
