Patriots offense could get major boost in London

HARROW ON THE HILL, England – The Patriots offense could be getting a big boost in London.

After missing last weekend’s game against the Houston Texans and being absent from the first two practices this week, Rhamondre Stevenson traveled with the Patriots to London on Thursday night and was present at practice on Friday morning.

The veteran running back is dealing with a foot injury, but the fact that he made the long trip to England and is participating is a positive development. On Friday, before the Patriots practice at the Harrow School in Harrow on The Hill, England, Jerod Mayo said Stevenson is getting closer to joining Drake Maye’s offense.

“We’ll see today. But he is getting closer,’ Mayo said. “Probably will be a game-time decision.”

Last week, in their loss against the Texans, the Patriots passing offense looked better than it had all season. However, they lacked on the ground. The Patriots ran for 82 yards, averaging 3.2 yards per carry. Maye led the group, rushing for 38 yards. With Stevenson out, Antonio Gibson got the start. The veteran running back ran for 19 yards on 13 carries, averaging 1.5 yards per carry.

The Jaguars have a stout run defense. They’re tied for 11th in the NFL, allowing 113.3 rushing yards per game.

Maye said that the key to unlocking the Patriots offense is to get their run game going on Sunday inside Wembley Stadium.

“Hopefully, we’ll get the run game going this week,” Maye said. ” I think that’s a big emphasis in this league and our offense – get the run game going and hopefully that opens up some passing lanes.”
