Peckham shooting: Appeal after boy, 15, taken to hospital

An appeal has been launched after a boy was shot in south London.

The Metropolitan Police said it was called at 23:12 BST on Monday to reports of an injured boy on Sumner Road in Peckham.

A 15-year-old boy was found with gunshot injuries at the scene and was taken to a south London hospital. His condition is not life-threatening.

The force has also said an investigation is under way but there have been no arrests.

Trident detectives are leading the investigation and are working closely with colleagues from the Central South Command Unit who police Southwark.

The Met urged anyone who witnessed or has footage of the incident to contact them, or call CrimeStoppers anonymously.

Det Insp Ray Sekalongo from the Met said: “It is sheer luck that this is not a murder investigation.

“Removing guns from our streets is a priority for the Met. The injuries caused by guns are often devastating and the effects of being a victim of gun crime linger far beyond the healing of wounds.”

He added: “This was an attempt on the life of a 15-year-old boy and I know that there are people who can name the person responsible.

“Please help us remove guns from your streets by sharing what you know.”
