Perth mum set to walk at London Fashion Week

An Ashby mum preparing to walk at the London Fashion Week this month and feature on a Times Square billboard hopes to inspire other mothers to “never say never”.

Em Carver said the opportunity naturally presented itself to model for Fiji-based fashion label Fierce and Flawless Couture and take the stage for the iconic fashion event at London Stadium on September 14.

“I was really fortunate that I managed to secure a spot and I was offered to model for all of the fashion weeks,” Carver said.

Your local paper, whenever you want it.

“We’ve got New York, London, Milan, Paris, and Tokyo, but because I’m at uni I could only really accept one, so I accepted London.”

Carver is originally from England and has been modelling and performing since she was a teen, having studied performing arts before moving down under 16 years ago.

The mother-of-one is also a foster carer for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and took a long break from her passion for performing arts, moving to Perth and working in accounts before focusing her attention on raising her family.

However, in 2020 Carver’s long-lost passion for beauty pageants, modelling and theatre which included her performing in My Fair Lady at the Regal Theatre in 2022.

She said the opportunity to walk the runway at London Fashion Week and appear on a billboard in Times Square at the age of 42 was a proud moment for her.

“I’m really excited. Because I’m a mum, it’s not something that your everyday mum gets to do,” she said.

“And obviously I’m a little bit older, so normally you would associate a fashion model to be somebody quite young.

“Being in my 40s, it’s definitely something I’m going to be remembering because I’m really proud to achieve this dream after all these years.”

The Times Square billboard is also set to bring a taste of Perth to the iconic New York hub, with her Fierce and Flawless Couture photo shoot taken at Gwelup Secret Garden last month, pictured, and set to feature on the billboard.

The Ashby mother is balancing her passion for performing arts with her university studies in marine biology.

Currently in her first year, Carver said she and her 10-year-old son is a lovers of the ocean and saving the environment and hopes her degree can help fulfil their passion together.

“My son Buddy wants to be a Marine Biologist when he grows up and he has started an organisation called Eco-Spark which teaches children about how they can care for the environment, so having a degree in marine biology will help us both on that journey,” she said.
