Londoners are well-acquainted when it comes to posh. From well-stocked Whole Foods stores to a sea of Ganni shirts, there are subtle signs of wealth everywhere.

Now, one quaint village with the ‘quietest beach’ has been named amongst the poshest villages near London.

Though almost half of the village’s properties are holiday homes, Walberswick in Suffolk is a permanent home to just under 400 residents.

A quieter alternative to Southwold, the popular seaside town next door, it’s one of Suffolk’s many hidden gems.

Brace yourself, though: it’s been named ‘posh’ for a reason. According to data from Rightmove, over the last year properties in Walberswick came with an average price tag of £1,516,667. Ouch.

Semi-detached properties went for around £1,275,000, whilst detached properties sold for a whopping £2,000,000.

If you can cope with the eye-watering costs, though, Walberswick offers a slower pace of life to the hustle and bustle of London, with a dog-friendly beach where you often won’t encounter another soul for miles.

‘Walberswick is a great beach and dog friendly. It’s the one we usually go to when I go back and visit. Go at low tide if you want sand though,’ one Reddit user, @peanutthecacti, wrote, whilst @Hot_Success_7986 applauded it for its ‘amazing history’ and ‘incredible houses.’

The research, compiled by Telegraph Money and Savills, assessed the villages’ ‘poshness’ based on the highest house prices, ‘best lifestyle amenities, connectivity and ‘aesthetic appeal.’

Meanwhile, Studham in Bedfordshire ranked as the ‘poshest’ village near London, credited for the ‘beautiful’ Studham Common as well as its hiking paths and primary school.

Elsewhere, Sunningdale in Berkshire came in second place, with an average house price of £1,462,199, and was noted for its ‘on-site Waitrose.’

Want to try your hand at crabbing? Walberswick hosted the famous British Open Crabbing Championship every August until 2011, and though the village couldn’t cope with the crowds of visitors, there’s nothing to stop you attempting it solo.

Meanwhile, the village is home to a range of pubs, including the 600-year-old Bell Inn and The Anchor at Walberswick, famed for its champagne and oysters.

And if you’d like to see where your supper was caught, you’ll find freshly caught fish galore by the harbour.
