Second London tower block fire in matter of hours as smoke pours from building
One witness claimed there was “no fire alarm” going off in the building despite the blaze.
Writing on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, Tushar Madan said: “#Fire in Charrington Tower, Blackwall, London. No fire alarms working on any floors.”
Local resident Andrew Wood, however, clarified: “The fire alarms are usually not meant to go off on other floors – part of the stay put policy – but they should go off on the floor where the fire was.”
In another Tweet, Mr Wood added: “This is why you must close all doors inside and outside if there is a fire (if you can).
“The last fire in New Providence Wharf opposite this tower, the person left the balcony and front door open when he left when the fire started which allowed the fire to spread internally and externally.”
