Tube passengers are facing severe delays as they travel on the London Underground.
Services are suspended Hammersmith and City Line between Liverpool Street due to a points failure at Aldgate East.
The rest of the route has severe delays, with passengers encouraged to use their tickets on London Buses, C2C and DLR services instead.
Minor delays are also being reported on the District anti-clockwise Circlelines as a result of the points failure.
Drivers warned of overnight closures on major motorways tonight
Numerous stretches of motorway will be closed overnight for upgrades and repairs.
They usually come into force around 8pm and open back up tomorrow morning around 6am, but some close later and open earlier.
It’s worth checking with National Highways and keeping an eye out for diversion signs so you’re not caught off guard.
Seven sections of motorway are closed tonight, not including the slip roads also closed to facilitate them.
These are:
- M1 southbound J14 to J11A
- M11 northbound J7A to J8
- M25 clockwise J25 to J27
- M25 westbound Terminal 5 spur road
- M4 eastbound J4 to J3
- M4 northbound J4A to J4 (lanes 3, 4 and 5)
- M4 westbound J1 to Heston Services
- M42 southbound J3 to J2
- M5 northbound J28 to 26
- M53 southbound J9 to J10
- M57 northbound J1 to J2
- M57 southbound J4 to J2
- M6 northbound J19 to J20
- M6 southbound J22 to J21A
- M61 northbound J2 to J4
- M62 eastbound between J29 to J30
- M66 southbound between J9 and J2
Disruption to last even longer after signalling fault between Peterborough and Grantham
Initially, National Rail expected services to be running smoothly by 3.30pm.
Now it’s looking like that won’t be the case until 6pm. Until then, passengers face cancellations and delays of up to 40 minutes in several routes.
These are:
- East Midlands Railway between Norwich and Liverpool Lime Street / Manchester Piccadilly
- Grand Central between London Kings Cross and Bradford Interchange / Sunderland
- Hull Trains between London Kings Cross and Hull / Beverley
- LNER between London Kings Cross and Lincoln / Leeds / Hull / Bradford Forster Square / Harrogate / York / Middlesbrough / Glasgow Central / Edinburgh / Stirling / Aberdeen / Inverness
- Lumo between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh
Signalling fault delays trains in Bedfordshire, Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire
Train speeds are limited on some sections of track due to a fault with the signalling system between Peterborough and Grantham, and at Bedford.
Services between Peterborough and Grantham will be delayed until 3.30pm as a result.
It won’t be fixed until 4pm in Bedford, leaving Thameslink passengers facing delays of up to 25 minutes for a little longer.
Trains may even terminate and restart early at places like Luton instead.
State-of-the art bus station now comes with a toilet
The Cromwell Road bus station in Kingston re-opens tomorrow after a works to transform it into a ‘state-of-the-art’ facility, TfL said.
Among its cutting edge features are a customer toilet, LED lights and CCTV.
It’s also now more energy efficient than it was before the upgrades last summer.
Seb Dance, Deputy Mayor for Transport, said: ‘When the Mayor was elected for a third term he committed to strengthening public transport options in outer London to help build a better and fairer city for all Londoners.
‘The transformation of Kingston bus station will be a gamechanger, with improved customer waiting areas, a toilet and new safety features to improve the customer experience and help people feel more confident when travelling by public transport.’
Trespass disrupts London Overground services
Trains running through Hackney Downs face cancellations and delays of up to 10 minutes due to a trespass incident at Edmonton Green.
It is affecting routes between London Liverpool Street and Enfield Town / Cheshunt / Chingford.
Half-hour delays between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale
A train from Wigan Wallgate to Leeds had to return to Manchester Victoria after a points failure this morning.
Since then, numerous routes have been affected by cancellations and delays of up to 30 minutes. This is expected to last until 1pm.
The affected services are:
- Chester / Manchester Victoria to Leeds
- Wigan Wallgate to Leeds
- Headbolt Lane to Blackburn
- Rochdale to Blackburn
Points failure causes disruption at Norwich
Trains between Norwich and the coastal towns of Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Sheringham are delayed or cancelled due to a points failure.
Without working points, trains can’t move from one section of track to another like a car would change lanes.
This means the route is blocked until Network Rail can fix it.
Disruption and delays of up to 15 minutes is expected to continue until 11.30am.
Trains between Sheffield and Doncaster cancelled
A lorry colliding with a bridge in Rotherham blocked the route between Sheffield and Doncaster / Westfield Westgate.
This means TransPennine Express services between the cities face up to 45-minute delays.
Disruption is expected until 11am.
Services between Leeds and Sheffield via Barnsley are unaffected.
Vehicle fire closes part of the M45
The M45 is currently closed westbound between the junctions with the M1 and the A45 due to a lorry fire.
