Severe delays on Overground and Underground ahead of rush hour

Commuters in London this evening will run into severe delays as they try to get home, with both the Piccadilly Line and Suffragette Line experiencing issues.

There’s currently no service at all between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge due to poor rail conditions caused by significant leaf fall, TfL said.

Commuters using the Piccadilly Line are urged to use the Metropolitan line instead. There are minor delays on the rest of the line due to train shortages.

On the Suffragette Overground line, there are severe delays between Gospel Oak and Barking Riverside due to a signalling issue at Crouch Hill.

Tickets are being accepted on buses and the Underground on ‘reasonable routes’.

The Central Line is also experiencing minor delays between White City and Ealing Broadway due to an earlier points failure at North Acton.

Severe delays on Suffragette Overground line

While the previous issues affecting the Lioness and Mildmay lines have now been solved, the green Suffragette line has been hit by severe delays ahead of the rush hour commute.

It has severe delays between Gospel Oak and Barking Riverside while Network Rail deal with a signalling issue at Crouch Hill, while the rest of the line has good service.

London Overground travel status update

Two lines on the London Overground network have been partially suspended.

Here is the latest Overground travel status.

  • The Lioness – No service between Kilburn High Road and Euston while Network Rail fix a track fault at Euston, and no service between Hackney Central and Stratford while Network Rail remove an animal from the track at Hackney Wick
  • The Mildmay – No service between Kilburn High Road and Euston while Network Rail fix a track fault at Euston, and no service between Hackney Central and Stratford because of the animal at Hackney Wick

London Overground Lioness line part suspended

The newly named London Overground Lioness line has been partially suspended after a Network Rail track fault at Euston.

The Lioness, which is marked by a yellow line, has no service between Kilburn High Road and Euston while Network Rail engineers fix a track fault at Euston.

The rest of the line and all other Overground routes have good service.

Overrunning works delay Basingstoke trains

Trains have been forced to run slower than usual between Micheldever and Basingstoke after delayed engineering works over a defective track. The area has a speed restriction in place because of the defect.

This means that CrossCountry and South Western Railway trains between Winchester and Basingstoke could be delayed by up to five minutes until the end of the day.

Train line closes again just days after storm damage

Trains will be unable to run between Barrow-in-Furness and Lancaster between Tuesday and Friday due to urgent track repairs.

The track was flooded during Storm Bert last week which forced it to shut down.

Now Network Rail is looking carry out repairs to the tracks and the supporting structure which will close it from tomorrow.

A1M remains closed in Hertfordshire after crash

The A1M remains closed between junction J8 and J9 northbound near Stevenage after a crash this morning.

A diversion route has been put in place following the solid circle symbol via the B197 and A505.

The road has 30-minute delays on approach and three miles of congestion.

The road was closed at about 6.40am after a crash, oil spillage and barrier damage, the traffic analyst Inrix says.

Update after long delays continue on the M6

If you’re travelling on the M6 northbound near Knutsford, Cheshire, prepare for long delays as the clean-up of an earlier lorry crash continues.

The M6 still has two-hour delays after a lorry crash and spillage between J18 and J19.

A monster queue stretches for 13 miles back to Alsager and almost back to J16 and two lanes out of four remain closed.

Severe delays on London Underground Central line

Travellers on the Underground Central line face severe delays after a signal failure in central London.

The busy commuter line is seeing severe delays between Leytonstone, West Ruislip and Ealing Broadway after a signal failure at Holborn.

The rest of the line has good service.

Passengers can use their valid tickets on London Buses, Elizabeth line, Chiltern Railway and Greater Anglia services.

The M6 is seeing up to two-hour delays on the northbound carriageway after a lorry crashed and ruptured its fuel tank between J18 and J19 near Knutsford.

Three lanes out of four remain closed and traffic is snarling back to Sandbach.

Highways teams are cleaning up the fuel spillage off the motorway.

Woman in her 50s fighting for life after crash on A35

A woman was left with life-threatening injuries after a crash involving three cars near Dorchester in Dorset.

The emergency services rushed to the scene between Dorchester and Winterbourne Abbas after reports of a three-vehicle crash shortly before 2pm yesterday.

A black Ford Fiesta, a white Seat Ibiza and a black Land Rover had crashed near Tilly Whim Lane.

A passenger of a white Seat Ibiza – a woman in her 50s – was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of a Land Rover, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital with non-serious injuries.

Three other people were treated at the scene but they did not need to go to the hospital.

Long delays on M40 after vehicle fire

Traffic on the M40 in Buckinghamshire has been hit by severe delays after a vehicle fire on the London-bound carriageway.

The road was partially blocked before vehicles were released past the scene between junctions J5 and J6.

Traffic appears stationary on the London-bound lane with queues stretching to J7.

Disruption on trains through Northampton after flood repairs

Passengers travelling between London Euston, Northampton and Crewe face severe disruption after Storm Bert flooding damaged the station tracks last week.

London Northwestern Railway passengers have been advised to only travel ‘if absolutely necessary’ due to shorter trains while rail replacement transport is expected to be ‘extremely busy,’ National Rail said.

Northampton station was out of action for a week after the flooding caused damage to the signals and tracks. While most of the repairs have now been done, further fixes are needed to allow trains to access all platforms.

National Rail said: ‘This is expected to affect the start of service for London Northwestern Railway services this morning.

‘We currently have no estimate of when disruption will be expected until so, please check back for further updates.’

Piccadilly line remains suspended after leaves on tracks

Part of the Piccadilly line on the London Underground remains part suspended in west London.

There is no service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge due to poor rail conditions caused by ‘significant leaf fall,’ the latest TfL travel status update shows.

Passengers were told to use the Metropolitan line instead to complete journeys.

The stretch between Acton Town and Rayners Lane has minor delays because of shortage of trains, while the rest of the line has good service.

Major motorways ‘severely’ congested

A growing list of motorways are piling up, according to National Highways:

  • M60 anticlockwise between junctions J12 and J11
  • M4 SPUR southbound between junctions J4 and J4A
  • M11 southbound between junctions J7A and J6
  • A1M northbound between junctions J8 and J9
  • M25 clockwise between junctions J4 and J5
  • A46 southbound between the junctions with the A1133 and the A1
  • M1 southbound between junctions J11 and J10
