Spain Wins First-Ever Girls Continental NFL Flag Series in London – London Post
The NFL hosted its first ever NFL Flag Continental Series: Europe – a one-day flag football tournament seeing five girls teams from across Europe compete on Oct. 7 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, presented in collaboration with Nike.
The tournament showcased U14 all-girls flag football athletes from Austria, France, Germany, Great Britain and Spain. In the championship game, Spain faced off against Austria, securing the champion title of the inaugural Continental NFL Flag Series tournament with a final score of 13-0.
Fast-paced and accessible for all, flag football is one of the fastest growing sports globally with women and girls driving some of the largest growth in participation.
“We were delighted to host a first-of-its-kind all girls flag football tournament at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, bringing together young talent from across Europe during the 2024 London Games,” said Vice President, Flag Football at the NFL Stephanie Kwok. “International football development, beginning at the grassroots level with NFL Flag, is a priority for us globally, and it was fantastic to see these athletes compete today. Congratulations to all the teams for their performances, and to our champions, team Spain.”
Team Spain included a mix of players from both Madrid and Barcelona, identified by the Chicago Bears and the Spanish American Football Federation (FEFA). The Bears are part of the NFL’s Global Markets Program, which allows NFL teams to have marketing rights in territories outside of the U.S. to continue to grow fandom across the world.
Flag football will officially be included in the LA 2028 Olympic Games program, led by efforts of the International Federation of Flag Football (IFAF) and supported by the NFL.
The NFL Flag Continental Series: Europe at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium reinforced the NFL’s commitment to promoting youth sports and inclusivity, providing an unforgettable experience for all attendees.
The tournament followed the start of the 2024 NFL London Games on Sunday, Oct. 6 where the Minnesota Vikings met the New York Jets in a thrilling game.
The excitement continues this weekend as the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Chicago Bears at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Oct. 13.
