Storm Darragh causes significant damage across UK including London

Storm Darragh, with wind gusts reaching 93 mph, caused significant damage and disruption across the UK, resulting in two fatalities.

Two men were killed when trees fell onto their vehicles in Lancashire and Birmingham. A major incident was declared in parts of Wales due to numerous reports of fallen trees and hazardous driving conditions.

The storm caused widespread power outages affecting hundreds of thousands of homes, with thousands still without electricity. Infrastructure damage included significant damage to Llandudno Pier in Wales and the partial roof collapse of a school in Scotland.

Numerous train services and flights were cancelled, and sporting events, including Premier League football matches and horse races, were postponed.

The UK government issued its largest-ever emergency alert to around three million mobile phones. While the strongest winds have subsided, yellow weather warnings remain in place for much of the UK.

The storm also brought heavy rain and flood alerts across England and Wales. Storm Darragh is the fourth named storm of the season.
