Woman charged in drowning of five-year-old daughter

A Windsor woman is facing criminal charges following the drowning death of her five-year-old daughter.

Windsor police arrested the 25-year-old woman on Thursday and charged her with criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

Officers responded to a call about a drowning at a home on Barton Crescent shortly before 9 p.m. on Sept. 9.

Police said Friday that officers arrived at the home and quickly recovered the child from the bottom of the backyard pool.

“Officers and personnel from Windsor Fire & Rescue Services performed life-saving measures on the unresponsive child pending the arrival of emergency medical services,” police said. “Despite these efforts, the child was pronounced deceased at the hospital.”

The Windsor Police Service’s major crimes unit began an investigation that led to the arrest of the little girl’s mother.
