Top 10 loudest cities in the world named – and London isn’t in the top 3
New research from Preply, an online language course provider, has revealed the loudest urban areas around the world, in areas where it seems the city never sleeps.
Major cities worldwide were analysed based on a variety of factors including traffic, noise pollution levels and population density. The research also reveals the noisiest cities within Europe specifically, as well as the world’s quiet.
With only 54 pubs and bars advertised online, Frankfurt is crowned the quietest city in the world.
The following ten cities should be taken into consideration by those who enjoy peace and quiet on holiday and cherish their beauty sleep.
Japan’s capital, Tokyo, took eighth place, welcoming 9.7 million visitors a year. It also has a population density of 4,000 per kilometre squared.
The average time spent in traffic matched with Seoul but behind Singapore. It received a noise pollution level of 45.71, the lowest on the list. It also had 44 attraction reviews complaining of noise and loudness.
Surprisingly, however, Tokyo’s pub and bar score topped the list by an extreme margin, with 4,929, over 3,600 more than the second place city in this category.
Sao Paulo in Brazil came in seventh, with a noise pollution level of 68.97. In 2022, it had a population density of 177.4 people per square kilometre, while also welcoming 2.3 million people according to Preply.
The average time spent in traffic was 51 minutes, the highest in the list and also had a pub and bar score of 665, second behind Tokyo.
That being said, it did only receive 14 attraction reviews mentioning “noisy” and “loud”, second after Singapore.
