Passengers travelling from London Euston should brace themselves for delays and cancellations expected to last until the end of the day.
A points failure between Milton Keynes Central and Watford Junction is wreaking havoc on Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway services from London Euston.
Trains face cancellations, delays of up to 30 minutes or revisions until the end of the day, National Rail warned.
Elsewhere, homes have been evacuated and trains stopped in Dalmuir, Clydebank, after a suspect item was found in a tower block. Train service is not expected to resume to normal today.
And trains are back up and running between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth following a train crash in which a passenger died on October 21.

Drivers have been told to take care at junction J2 on the M27 near Ower, Hampshire, after a barn fire.
Firefighters are tackling a blaze on Salisbury Road, Ower.
Nearby residents have been told to shut windows and doors due to smoke.
The fire is thought to have started in a camper van before it spread to the adjacent barn with around 500 bales of hay.

ScotRail trains through Dalmuir station will be disrupted until the end of the day.
It comes after a suspicious item was found at Overtoun Court in Dalmuir, Clydebank which led to a major emergency response with the bomb squad in attendance.
ScotRail has sourced some replacement transport, but passengers were told to make their own alternative travel arrangements.
Trains between Dalmuir and Drumchapel/Yoker face two-hour delays or cancellations.
All railway lines have been blocked in Dalmuir, Clydebank, after a suspect item was discovered in a tower block near the station.
The bomb squad was alerted after the suspicious item was found in Overtoun Court.
Surrounding properties have been evacuated and people should stay away from the area, Police Scotland said.
ScotRail said it has sourced ‘very limited’ replacement transport and passengers should make their ‘own alternative arrangements.’
Services will terminate and start from Hyndland or Exhibition Centre where possible, it said.
Footage shows a police cordon and emergency vehicles on Swindon Street near Dalmuir station.
Passengers have been warned of 30-minute delays on ScotRail services, including on trains to Glasgow and Edinburgh.
ScotRail trains may be cancelled or delayed because of a police incident at Dalmuir, Clydebank.
The disruption is expected to last until 6pm, National Rail warned.

Queues are starting to ease on the M5 near West Bromwich after an earlier police incident and broken down vehicle.

A shortage of available train crew means some services between Watford Junction and St Albans Abbey will be cancelled.
This will impact London Northwestern Railway services between those two stations from 6pm until the end of service on Monday.
Replacement rail transport will run in place of cancelled train services. This will be provided by Lucketts of Watford.
From 6pm, your ticket will be accepted on Arriva Buses route 321 at no extra cost.
Two out of three lanes were closed on the M1 northbound between junction 29a for Markham Vale and 30 for Barlborough.
There was a crash between two lorries and the emergency services were at the scene.
All lanes have now reopened, but drivers are still facing half-hour delays with around 3.5miles of congestion on the approach.
National Highways have managed to move a broken down vehicle on the M5 northbound between junction 1 for West Bromwich and the M6 on to the hard shoulder.
However, the road is still blocked because police are now dealing with an incident on scene.
Drivers are facing 45-minute delays and queueing traffic is reaching as far back as junction 3 for Quinton now.
There’s a broken down freight train between Virginia Water and Chertsey which is blocking the line in that area.
Trains running between these stations are likely to be cancelled, delayed or revised, and the disruption is set to last until 3pm.
The situation at London Waterloo has got worse, with disruption caused by a track circuit failure now expected to last until the end of the day.
It’s affecting the following South Western Railway services to and from Waterloo:
Traffic has been stopped on the M5 northbound between junction 1 for West Bromwich and the M6 due to a broken down vehicle.
There are four miles of queues and drivers are facing delays of around 45 minutes.
National Highways say their traffic officers are on scene and will be moving the vehicle onto the hard shoulder.
The so-called ‘holiday tax’ could increase the price of trips abroad.

Merseyrail services are being disrupted after animals got onto the railway in the Maghull area.
Services may be delayed by up to 20 minutes, and the disruption is expected to last until 1pm.
East Midlands Railway says some of its routes are being disrupted after a person was hit by a train.
It’s impacting its Intercity and Connect routes between Kettering and Bedford.
There’s been a points failure between Leeds and Ilkley which has blocked some lines between the two stations.
Northern services are facing cancellations and delays of up to half an hour, with disruption expected until 2pm.
Network Rail are on site investigating the issue.
If you are at Leeds you are advised to board the next available Northern service to Shipley and connect with services towards Ilkley.
If you are at Ilkley you are advised to board the next available Northern service to Shipley and connect with services towards Leeds.
Ticket restrictions have been lifted during this disruption.
Leeds – Bradford Forster Square services are not affected by this disruption.
Leeds – Skipton services are not affected by this disruption.
Ilkley – Bradford Forster Square / Skipton services are not affected by this disruption.
A member of staff has fallen ill on the Island Line between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin this morning, meaning fewer trains can run between the two stations.
A reduced service is in operation and the disruption is set to last until about 2pm.
Your ticket will be accepted on Southern Vectis 2 and 3 between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin at no extra cost.
There’s a problem with the track between Northampton and Milton Keynes which is forcing trains to run at a reduced speed on the line to London Euston.
Trains running through these stations have been reduced to an hourly service, and this disruption is expected until the end of the day.
London Northwestern Railway have ordered rail replacement transport to supplement the train services during the peak.
Network Rail are planning the rectification of the track defect but disruption is expected to last all day.
