Travel chaos LIVE: Major disruption after two people hit by trains

Passengers have are facing major delays across various services after two people were struck by trains on Thursday afternoon.

Euston was the first to see major disruption after the first incident, in Bushey, with major routes including ones toward Manchester, and Birmingham suspended.

Photos showed huge crowds as boards revealed services were heavily delayed or cancelled. Lines from Euston reopened at around 4pm but National Rail warns the disruption is likely to continue for the rest of the day.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just after 12.30pm today (26 September) near Bushey Railway Station.

“Officers and paramedics attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead. The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Another person was hit by a train between Tottenham Hale and Broxbourne this afternoon, delaying all routes from Liverpool Street to Cambridge, Stansted Airport and Hertford East.

Services from Euston and Liverpool Street have since reopened but further severe disruption is expected.
