One person has died and two have been injured in a shooting in south-east London, and a man over 60 years old was arrested after a knife attack in South London, in which one person died and three were injured, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
About 10:10 a.m., police were called to a report of a shooting in the area of Wells Park Road. Emergency services arrived at the scene and found a man with gunshot wounds, who died at the scene.
A woman was also found with gunshot wounds to her legs, who was taken to hospital, but according to the Metropolitan Police, her condition is not life-threatening. A third person was hospitalized with what are believed to be gunshot wounds, police said, but his condition is unknown.
London police appealed to citizens to provide information, condemning the “senseless display of violence”. No arrests have yet been made, and police are trying to identify the victim and contact relatives.
“I know people will be shocked by this senseless act of violence, especially on a Sunday morning in a residential area,” said local police chief Peter Stevens. “I share their concerns and can assure the local public that the response of the Metropolitan, together with our partners, is swift,” he stressed. “We are determined to protect the public, get to the bottom of what happened here and bring those responsible to justice.
In the second incident, officers were called around 10:40 a.m. to reports of several people being stabbed on East Street. in Walworth, the police in the British capital also reported. Three people were found with injuries and one man died at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, aimed at clarifying his identity and informing his family, the police said.
The other two – a man and a woman – were taken to hospital for treatment and their condition is unknown. A man aged between 60 and 70 was arrested at the scene of the incident and is in custody, police added.
Chief Stevens said, “A man tragically lost his life this morning and officers are working hard to establish exactly what happened and to support his family. My thoughts and sincere condolences are with them and the other victims.
The investigation is at a very early stage, but so far no other suspects are being sought and the incident is not being treated as terrorist, he added.
