Travellers face delays across UK motorways today after two serious crashes have shut stretches of the M61 and M20.

The M61 in Lancashire is closed southbound between junctions 6 and 8 after a collision close to the Rivington services just after midnight. The carriageway will remain shut until further notice due to investigative work and National Highways has put diversions in place.

A coastbound stretch of the M20 remains shut in Kent after a serious crash involving three cars this morning. Traffic has been rerouted on diversions.

In Cumbria, five people have been killed after a crash on the M6 yesterday. Two children are among the dead while a third child is fighting for life in the hospital.


No trains between West Ealing and Greenford

Great Western Railway trains cannot run between West Ealing and Greenford stations after a signalling fault in the area.

Trains on this route will be cancelled until about 1pm, National Rail warned.

A stretch of the M20 remains closed in Kent after a serious collision this morning.

Three cars were involved, and it is thought some casualties have been left with life-changing injuries.

Crash investigation is ongoing which is why the motorway remains closed coastbound between J1 (M25) and J3 (M26) at least until 2pm.

Traffic trapped in the closure has now been released and diversions remain in place.

Lane closure on the A1M near Doncaster after crash

Just hours after an earlier crash on the A1M near Leeds, another incident has been reported near Doncaster.

One lane is closed southbound between J37 Thurnscoe and J36 Doncaster after a crash.

Journeys through the area could take an hour longer than usual.

Train delays between London Waterloo and Wimbledon

South Western Railway passengers travelling between London Waterloo station and Wimbledon should prepare for cancellations and delays after a signal fault.

Some trains could also be revised.

The disruption is expected to last at least until 11am, but this could be revised depending on when the issue is resolved.

Passengers could be entitled to compensation through their train company if the journey is delayed.

Two children among five people killed on the M6

Five people have died after two cars crashed on the M6 in Cumbria.

Two children travelling in a Toyota are among the dead along with a man and a woman from Glasgow. A third child was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of a Skoda, a man from Cambridgeshire, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The M6 was closed for hours after the collision. It has since fully reopened.

All lanes reopen on A1M but delays remain

All three lanes on the A1M near Leeds have reopened following a collision.

The hour-long delays in the area are now expected to start to ease.

Three out of four lanes are currently closed on the A1M southbound between junction 44 for Leeds and 43 for the M1.

Drivers are experiencing hour-long delays at the moment, with about five miles of congestion on the approach.

Diversions in place after M20 crash

Drivers are being asked to use the M25 and M26 after the M20 eastbound (coastbound) was blocked between junctions 1 and 3.

Traffic travelling on the M25 clockwise and wishing to head towards Maidstone are advised to join the A2 coastbound at junction 2, continue onto the M2 and then join the A249 southbound at junction 5.

M20 closed at junction with M25 after a crash

The M20 is closed eastbound at its junction with the M25.

It’s closed between junction 1 for the M25 and 2 for the M26 following a crash.

There’s also currently an up and over closure at junction 1 on the westbound side of the road.

This will likely have an impact on the M25, as the exit slip road to join the M20 has been closed.

Emergency services are in attendance and drivers are being asked to use an alternative route if they can.

A30 blocked after serious collision

The A30 in Devon has been closed eastbound between the A382 for Whiddon Down and the A377 for Exeter after a crash involving a lorry and a car.

Police are investigating at the scene, but there is currently no estimated reopening time while they work.

The crash happened at around 11pm on Tuesday night and it’s currently thought the road will be closed throughout the morning.

National Highways are also on scene to help with traffic management and clear-up.

There’s an official diversion route:

  • Leave the A30 at the Whiddon Down junction
  • Follow the C50 through Cheriton Bishop
  • Rejoin the A30 at the Woodleigh Junction

A38 blocked in both directions due to flooding

The A38 is closed in both directions between the A30 for Bodmin and A390 for Liskeard in Cornwall after rain overnight flooded the carriageway.

Police are on the scene alongside specialists trying to clear the flood water from the road.

These official diversion routes are in place, both following the solid square symbol:

Eastbound

  • At the Turfdown Roundabout take the third exit onto Turfdown Road
  • At the next roundabout take the 1st exit onto the B3268
  • Continue onto the B3269
  • At the T-junction turn left onto the A390 towards Liskeard
  • Travel along the A390 for approximately 7 miles to the roundabout with the B3254 at Lsikeard
  • Re-join the A38 at the Twelvewoods Roundabout

Westbound

  • At the Twelvewoods Roundabout take the second exit onto the A390
  • After Lostwithiel turn right onto the B3269
  • Continue onto the B3268
  • At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Turfdown Road
  • Re-join the A38 at the Turfdown Roundabout

Official diversion route after M61 serious crash

Drivers affected by the closure on the southbound carriageway of the M61 are being asked to follow the hollow square diversion symbol, using the following route:

  • Exit the M61 southbound at J8
  • At the M61 J8/A674 roundabout, follow A674 westbound for approx. 1 mile. 
  • At the A674/A6 roundabout, follow the A6 southbound for approx. 10 miles. 
  • At A6/A6027 roundabout, follow the A6027 eastbound for approx 1 mile. 
  • At the A6027/M61 Jct 6 roundabout, rejoin the M61 southbound.
