Virgin Hotels opens London property

Virgin Hotels London Shoreditch officially opened its doors on Thursday (1 August), marking the brand’s debut in the UK capital.

The 120-room hotel, formerly the Mondrian Shoreditch, will now begin a ‘phased transformation’ to inject features of the Virgin Hotels brand, including the addition of a penthouse suite, known as Sir Richard’s Flat.

The rebrand, first announced in June, will also see the hotel’s street-level lobby lounge and café become a pop-up ‘Commons Club’, the brand’s flagship food and beverage concept, before being “transformed into an exciting new space” later in the year.

The property will continue to house Spanish restaurant BiBo and will feature a rooftop bar, pool, private members club, gym and treatment rooms.

Commenting on the opening, Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson, said: “The UK is where the Virgin story all began, so it’s incredibly exciting to have another foothold in the city. Virgin Hotels was created to do things differently, and Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch is no exception.”

The Shoreditch hotel marks the 17th property in the Virgin Hotels Collection, joining properties in Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as in Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Nashville, New Orleans and New York.
