On the fourth day of the second Test between England and Sri Lanka at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London, the hosts are well poised after a gripping performance. England, having been bowled out for 251 runs in their second innings, left Sri Lanka with a daunting target of 483 runs to win the match.

As the match progressed, a pivotal moment occurred when Chris Woakes delivered a crucial blow to Sri Lanka. In the 27th over of Sri Lanka’s innings, Woakes managed to dismiss Prabath Jayasuriya, scoring 4 runs.

The delivery was slightly fuller and wider of the crease, enticing Jayasuriya to drive. However, the ball took an outside edge and flew into the slip cordon, where Harry Brook made an outstanding catch.

Asitha Fernando and Lahiru Kumara were Sri Lanka’s standout bowlers, with Fernando claiming 3/52 and Kumara taking 3/53, including the vital wicket of Joe Root.

Sri Lanka Need A Mountain To Climb

Earlier in the game, Gus Atkinson drew first blood for England by removing Nishan Madushka. Later, Olly Stone made an impact by dismissing Pathum Nissanka for 14 runs off 24 balls. Joe Root, the star of the series, took both Nissanka’s and Madushka’s catches.

At the time of writing, Sri Lanka needs 381 runs to win against the hosts, with Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews at the crease.
