Watch: England fans fight each other inside stadium as violence breaks out on streets of London

There were also reports that some England fans had begun fighting in the first half of the match, while the game was still goalless.

Chris Bird, a former Manchester City defender, said on X: “England fans fighting each other in the first half once again showing there is a section of support who don’t deserve finals or these players. Disgusting experience, I will never watch England away ever again.”

Tens of thousands of England supporters had journeyed to Berlin in advance of the final, while pubs and bars back home had started to fill up many hours before the 8pm kick-off on Sunday night. Some estimations had 50,000 England fans in the German capital by kick-off.

Ahead of that match at Wembley, thousands of ticketless thugs had stormed the national stadium amid the worst scenes of rioting in the English game for decades.

Britain’s most senior football police officer also warned he would pursue banning orders for anyone found to have been involved in disorder while following England.

Chief Constable Mark Roberts, of Cheshire Police, revealed there had been a “small number of instances of disorder which has resulted in 66 arrests” during England’s stay in Germany and added: “These incidents have been swiftly dealt with by the German police with the support of UK officers.”
